Fuel tax credit rate change for heavy vehicles
If you use heavy vehicle that travels on public roads you must use the new rate of 17.43 cents per litre (applicable from 1 January 2009) to work out your claim. The ATO online calculator will help you use the correct rate to work out your entitlement. You should also check that your vehicle satisfies environmental criteria before you claim.

In December 1997 the Kyoto Protocol established legally binding targets for developed countries to limit greenhouse gas emissions (subject to ratification). Targets or "assigned amount units" (AAUs) were set relative to emissions
in 1990 and apply for the initial target period of 2008 - 2012.
